A bamboo toothbrush, for clean teeth and for a clean conscience.
Millions of plastic toothbrushes are thrown away every year. The toothbrushes that end up in the trash are almost impossible to recycle. And those that end up in nature remain for decades, or maybe even hundreds of years. Doing nothing about this only increases the damage. Be aware of this and move away from plastic. Switch to bamboo.
What makes this bamboo toothbrush a sustainable alternative?
Our toothbrushes are almost entirely biodegradable. The bamboo handle is 100% plastic-free and can therefore be disposed of with the organic waste. Unfortunately, the bristles are not (yet). Therefore, break off the head with pliers and throw it in the residual waste.
Currently, toothbrush bristles are made of nylon 610, which requires castor oil from the miracle tree. This process is already quite an improvement compared to the production process of normal nylon – which uses petroleum. But unfortunately, it does not yet ensure 100% biodegradable bristles. We will keep looking for the right formula until at some point we can offer fully biodegradable toothbrushes.
Sustainable and animal-friendly bamboo
Like many of our products, the toothbrushes consist largely of bamboo. Bamboo is incredibly sustainable for several reasons. For one, it is the fastest-growing plant in the world. The type we use, moso bamboo, grows up to one metre a day under optimal conditions.
In addition, the origin and cycle of a bamboo plant is also very sustainable. This is because it does not grow from seeds, but from one large root system. By using at least five-year-old bamboo, the root system remains healthy and intact, and new branches constantly grow out.
Most importantly though, we do not pose a threat to pandas. After all, bamboo makes up over 90% of their diet. But fortunately, they prefer to eat the leaves that grow close to the ground. That is why their choice is not moso bamboo. The leaves of this species grow too high.
